16th September - The Funeral of Robbie Farrugia

On September 16, at the Annunciation Parish Church, Balzan took place the funeral of Robbie Farrugia.  The funeral started at  3.00pm  from Main Street -the lower part- with the participation of St. Gabriel Band Club in which funeral marches were played.   At 4.00pm, the Mass praesente cadavere was said with the participation of  the President of the Republic His Ecc. Dr. E. Fenech Adami, the Deputy Prim Minister Dr.T. Borg, Members from the Parliament, Bands and Pyrotechnic Societies around Malta, his family, relatives and friends.  The grief was covered with 2 flags… St. Gabriel Band Club and  Maltacom with whom Robbie worked as a security guard. 21 bombs were fired as a sign of respect.   When the grief was right in front of  the St.Gabriel’s Club,  the President Mr. L. Borg and Secretary Mr. J. Spiteri in the name of all the members gave him the last tribute to a gentleman who spent his life working in pyrotechnics.  At the end of the Mass, Rueben Degabriele delivered a small speech.  When the grief was on his way out, the crowd gave tribute with endless clapping.

14th September - Explosion at the St. Gabriel Fireworks Factory in Balzan
After the Explosion incident at the Fire Works factory in Balzan on Wednesday 14th September 2005, all activities have been cancelled as a sign of grief. The accident happened at around 8.45am and cost the life of a 57 year old man, Robbie married with three children, he worked hard all year round together with others in order to have fireworks done for the feast of the Anunciation in Balzan. At the time of the accident two other men where present Valent Azzopardi and Zaren Azzopardi who suffered no injurues. The accident happened when Robbie was working on some explosive material that for some reason exploded in his hands. Robbie died on the spot. No structural damage was done to the factory. Robbie will never be forgotten and will remain in our hearts, he is surely near the Annunciation praying for us.

14th September - La Notte Di San Gabriele - CANCELLED AS A SIGN OF RESPECT
On Saturday 1st October 2005 it is going to be organized a Maltese Night at the Club's yard from 8.00pm onwards. Price Lm5 Adults and Lm2.50 Children. Variety of Maltese food, Live Entertainment from The Greenfields, fireworks, photos of the Feast 2005 on the Big Screen, etc.

14th September - Blue Planet Party - CANCELLED AS A SIGN OF RESPECT
On Friday 30th September 2005 from 8.00pm onwards at the Club's yard. Price Lm2.50 and there will be finger food. Music will be played by Dj Frans & Dj John - Everyone is invited to wear blue shirts!!!
